… OUR PROJECT
Major work is urgently required to preserve the church. Since 1905, the village has been the owner of and therefore liable for the building and its furnishings.
Conservation work is required both inside and out.
Firstly, the entire roof and electrical fittings need renovating, then the walls and floors will need work.
… CONTEXT
Located in the Perche regional natural park, Verrières is a rural community, covering 17.9km² with a population of 425, including people with holiday homes here.
Social life in Verrières is based on a number of active groups who organise events such as:
- conference dinners, themed evening events,
- the annual village fête with its bric-a-brac and the inter-village games,
- the national heritage day event with a guided visit of the church,
- ecumenical prayer evenings and the annual ecumenical get-together.
Saint-Ouen church (12th and 16th C.), a listed building, is recognised by all as one of the village's main architectural treasures.
… STAKES
Saint-Ouen church deserves to be renovated and promoted among:
- the local population, whose identity and history it symbolises,
- visitors and tourists, which it can help to attract, especially with its location
in the Perche regional natural park.
The renovation and promotion of the church will have an impact for the whole of the Perche regional natural park, creating certain dynamics, for example:
- creating work or indeed jobs for the companies involved in the renovation project,
- generating other projects (tourist, cultural and religious activities),
- developing the local economy (shops, craftsmen, accommodation and
restaurants)
- forging social links at local and regional level.
